Other specialised inspection services include Pulsed Eddy Current, SLOFEC, Digital Radiography, Phased Array Ultrasonics, Time of Flight Diffraction and Thermography.
Ultrsonic Phased Array (PA) equipment produces accurate detailed cross-sectional images of internal structures at rapid inspection speeds. PA technology uses multiple ultrasonic elements and electronic time delays to create beams that can be steered, scanned, swept, and focused electronically for fast inspection, full data storage, and multiple angle inspections.
Pulsed Eddy Current
Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) was developed for the detection of corrosion under insulation (CUI). It allows the detection of corroded areas without removing the insulation. Using this method to indicate the affected areas can lead to significant cost reductions as fewer areas need follow-up and less insulation needs to be removed.
The Saturated Low Frequency Eddy Current (SLOFEC) inspection technique uses the eddy current principle in combination with a magnetic field and allows the fast screening of large areas of vessels, pipework and structures for internal and external wall thickness loss with minimal surface preparation.
The ability of the SLOFEC technique to inspect through different coatings and cladding types under high temperatures and through thick wall components means that it can be used as part of a Non Intrusive Inspection strategy.
Thermal imaging cameras detect radiation in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum and produce images of that radiation. Thermography can be used for inspection tasks including those on rotating equipment, electrical equipment, pressure systems, insulated piping, storage tanks and vessels, looking for hot/cold spots, solids build up in vessels and piping, wet insulation etc.
EM&I can also provide conventional NDT and inspection services including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, radiography and eddy current inspection.
