ABS Technical Committee

ABS in Athens asked Danny Constantinis (Executive Chairman) to give the key note talk on the 21st November to the ABS Hellenic Technical Committee (HTC) Conference – a gathering made up of an audience of ABS senior technical managers and major ship owners.

The conference took place at its state-of-the-art Global Ship Systems Center (GSSC) in Athens, Greece.

ABS opened its GSSC in June 2017, establishing a premier research and development facility for the marine and offshore industries. The ABS GSSC team is leading multiple projects from ABS CyberSafety® and LNG as fuel, to vessel performance and emission controls. The HTC will actively participate in development and updating of standards used in design, construction and surveys of vessels, other marine and offshore structures and a host of specialized systems.

Around 45 people attended the event which was held to consider if what EM&I have developed in the offshore world could be applied to the world of international shipping.

There was great interest in the new ODIN®, NoMan®, ANALYSE™ and ExPert™ technology and a number of follow up actions are now planned to meet with ABS senior management to discuss how we can introduce these ideas to the marine world.
