EM&I granted further patents for diverless UWILD technology

Following a successful application for a patent in the US last year, EM&I have been granted more patents for their ODIN® diverless under water inspection in lieu of drydocking (UWILD) and valve inspection and repair technology in the UK and Australia.

The technology has already been proved on numerous projects throughout the world on FPSOs, drillships and semi submersibles, and other offshore assets over the last 5 years and has helped to revolutionise essential periodic surveys and maintenance which can now be carried out while the vessels are on station, on hire, and in operation.

Being diverless UWILD technology, ODIN is much less sensitive to sea state. Work can be carried out quickly and simply by a 3-4-man team. This has typically produced savings of over 50% and POB reductions of 70% which enhances safety and reduced carbon emissions.

Danny Constantinis, Executive Chairman of the EM&I Group, said: “Being able to carry out essential work with much fewer people is especially important as we move more and more towards robotic and remote inspections. The current pandemic has added extra impetus to ODIN based solutions and explains why EM&I are delivering multiple ODIN inspection and repair projects in Brazil alone. We continue to invest in new technologies in asset integrity driven by our leadership of the hull inspection techniques and strategy (HITS) joint industry project (JIP) working with the FPSO Global Research Forum”.
