EM&I ODIN technology used for valve inspection and repair offshore Angola

FSRUs - odin technology

EM&I’s ODIN® technology was used for critical valve inspections and repairs on a Drill Ship in Angola, while the vessel was on hire, on station, and in operation. Twenty one valves were inspected and three repaired. Safely, on time, and at a fraction of the cost of conventional methods.

EM&I used their unique ODIN inspection technology, utilising specially adapted cameras and manipulators, inserted through class approved ODIN access ports, which were installed adjacent to the valves to be inspected.

ODIN repair technology was used for the three valves that needed to be repaired; these were isolated with the ODIN inflatable bladder isolation system, inserted through class approved access ports.

All the work was carried out without using divers and blanking plates, or taking the valves out of operation – except for a brief period when a repair was required.

Both the client and class society were delighted with the results, and the client awarded EM&I a 10/10 FPAL (client feedback assessment system) for this project.

Danny Constantinis, EM&I Executive Chairman commented: “We estimate that by not having to come off hire for around 10 days, and mobilise a dive team – which would normally have been required using traditional techniques – our client saved over 50% of the costs, and 70% of the POB requirement. All the ODIN access ports which were installed for this project can also be used again for all subsequent inspections and repairs”.
