The paper, ‘Optimised Asset Integrity Management through Disruptive Innovation’, was presented at the IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) conference in Malaysia this week.

Peter Davies, Regional General Manager for EM&I in the Asia Pacific Region gave the presentation, which focussed on the cost benefits, efficiency and safety of robotic technologies such as ODIN® for diverless UWILD (Under Water Inspections in Lieu of Drydocking) and valve inspections & repair; NoMan® remote cameras for tank inspections, and ExPert™ for NII (Non-Intrusive inspections) of Ex items.

All these technologies are class approved and have been used with great success on numerous projects throughout the world. EM&I have been leading the asset integrity industry in disruptive robotic technologies through the JIP (Joint Industry Project) for HITS (Hull Inspection Techniques & Strategy) which they initiated on behalf of the FPSO Global Research Forum over 6 years ago.

The conference was held at the PETRONAS Petroleum Technology Institute (INSTEP) which provides training for PETRONAS and other Malaysian companies’ technicians, as well as students from around the world. It provides both theoretical and practical training with simulators, a ‘live’ drilling rig, and both upstream and downstream ‘dummy’ process plants.
