Robotic and Digital Integrity Management

EM&I have produced a series of four ‘books’ describing new methods for integrated robotic and digital integrity management technologies.

These were originally requested by a supermajor who wanted to speed up their way of introducing new methods to their operational and technical teams.

The books cover diverless in-water inspections and repairs, remote inspection of confined spaces, advanced pressure systems inspections, and non-intrusive Ex electrical inspections.

There was a strongly positive response and further requests for copies of the Books. This has encouraged EM&I to develop a fifth book on introducing new technologies for new-build projects.

The books are regularly updated as new technologies become available. And help keep colleagues in the industry informed of progress in the vital area of robotics and improved ways of using data.

BOOK 1 Synopsis

Book 1 covers the ODIN® diverless in-water inspection technology. This has been used successfully on many projects throughout the world. Including FPSOs, drillships & semi-submersibles. Deck launched mini remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) are used to inspect the hull and appendages underwater. They can also be adapted for cleaning inlet grills to sea chests and cleaning & inspecting anchor chains.

The ODIN technology also uses specialised cameras and manipulators from the nuclear industry. This is to check critical valves in operation through class approved access ports installed next to the valves.

This has been used with great success. As all the work can be carried out while the vessels are on station, on hire, and in operation. So avoiding any out of service charges and penalties.

Any valves which need to be repaired or replaced can utilise an inflatable bladder system. This is inserted through the ODIN class approved access ports to isolate the valve concerned. Or with ROV located blanking plates to seal sea chests.

The projects completed to date have produced significant savings of over 50% in costs and 70% POB (People on Board). To the complete satisfaction of both the clients and class societies involved.

Danny Constantinis (Executive Chairman) of the EM&I Group, said: “I believe that the four ‘Books’ are helpful and reflect the work we have done with the HITS and other JIPs.”
