Laser Scanning Technology

EM&I have just been awarded a contract by a major drilling contractor in the Gulf of Mexico to laser scan the moon pool deck area on an ultra-deepwater drillship.

EM&I will then produce 3D modelling of the area so that the client can utilise these models for the design of new pipework and equipment. EM&I have been developing laser scanning technology for many other aspects of asset integrity and expect this to become the ‘new norm’ as part of their highly successful suite of robotic technologies.

These have all been ‘industry driven’ through the JIP (Joint Industry Project) for HITS (Hull Inspection Techniques & Strategy) which was initiated by EM&I over 6 years ago on behalf of the FPSO Global Research Forum.

Commenting on this exciting pilot project for a new client Pat Lawless (CEO) of the EM&I Group stated: “It’s great to be working with a major player in the drilling industry who has a reputation for profitability and innovation. We look forward to the successful and safe completion of our first pilot project for this major client”.
