EM&I manages the HITS JIP (Hull Inspection Techniques & Strategy Joint Industry Project) on behalf of the members who identified and prioritised inspection challenges that were affecting cost, safety and operational penalties for the floating asset industry.

The HITS members agreed to encourage the industry to develop solutions for HITS to evaluate:

  • Minimising the use of divers for hull inspections
  • Minimising man entry for inspection of enclosed spaces
  • Minimising cleaning requirements for inspection of cargo oil tanks
  • Development of competency standards for Hull Inspectors

A number of solutions have been identified, many of which have been proven in the nuclear, gas transmission and aerospace industries and have been combined and adapted to meet the needs of the floating production, drilling and FLNG sectors.
